History Beginning of renovation 1996 Early 1900's Carl Victor Rosberg Family Our Queen Anne Victorian was originally built as a private residence in 1885 for the Carl Victor Rosberg family. C.V. Rosberg was a furniture maker also an undertaker. It was said that he was the first licensed undertaker in the State of Kansas. He was reported to have had a beautiful voice and sang in the annual Messiah Chorus for many years. He was also an accomplished pianist. The Rosberg's had eight children, seven daughters and one son. Mr. Rosberg died in 1914 and his wife Mathilda died in 1931. Mrs. Rosberg sold the home to G.E. Eberhart in 1925. In the 50's it was home to the Pi Sigma Chi fraternity for Bethany College. In the 80's it became a bar and later a pizza cafe called the State Street Cafe. The Spellman family bought the house in late 1995 and began what was thought to be a six month renovation and became a four and a half year renovation. The house was moved off the foundation to the back of the lot and a new basement was excavated and built. By October 1996 the house was moved onto its new foundation.
